Educational Excursions
One of the most cherished and exciting parts of the "Desiderata Experience" is the Educational Excursion concept.
As often as once per year, depending on participant interest, Desiderata hosts extended field trips to rather exotic destinations such as Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Walt Disney World FL, and Las Vegas.
The value of these trips can hardly be overstated. To learn from textbooks, or even video and/or computer, is fine - but to experience first hand the concepts and locales one reads about is to bring the learning alive. Whether it is the "Amusement Park Physics", "Animal Husbandry", "U.S. History", or "Animation and Set Design" program of Disney World, or the sheer majesty of the Grand Canyon and Moab, or the excitement of the live volcano, rain forests, Marine Biology, and waterfall hikes in Hawaii, these are experiences that students never forget.
Each Educational Excursion is accompanied by both pre- and post-trip activities to support the educational value of the activities. Students attending and completing all of the associated activities earn credit toward core curricular subject areas commensurate with the material covered. Fees vary by trip, but are surprisingly affordable, as we arrange school program discounts at every destination.
