Desiderata School has been serving students and the community since 1989. We are accredited by a nationally recognized agency (NCES) as a non-traditional, private school specializing in small-group and independent instruction. Desiderata School utilizes a wide variety of trusted general education curriculum sources and publishers. Our 10:1 maximum student to staff ratio, combined with our proficiency based model, makes our programs ideal for advanced or gifted students, students who may not have seen success in a traditional classroom setting, and everyone in between.

What this means for your child:

  • Homework is not required.

  • Students who can complete coursework in under traditionally allotted time-frames may receive credit and move on.

  • Students who struggle in a subject and require more time to meet mastery levels may take the time to do so.

  • Students who participate in community activities, such as local sports team, and other learning-worthy activities, may also calculate those hours towards their schooling requirements.

Desiderata School is accredited by The National Commission for Exceptional Schools.

The NCES is recognized as an accreditation agency by The Federal Department of Education as well as The Colorado Department of Education.

The State Board of Education in Colorado cannot accredit private schools. Desiderata School is therefore accredited by an independent accrediting agency. Desiderata chose the NCES due to its flexibility in development of non- traditional programs while still maintaining high standards of learning for all students of its member schools.

Desiderata is a gem of a school for students who need individual, supportive attention and a small school, caring environment.  The school is designed to help catch students up to grade level and to challenge them to go ahead of grade level. The program is designed so that they can learn using all their interests as a guide to choosing their curriculum.  The school is also very involved in helping the community such as field trips where the students work at a food bank, or guest speakers that show the students how to help with the local wildlife. Each student feels real support by this tight school community, not only from the teachers but also from the other students.  I would highly recommend this school.”

Lisa Bain, CASA Support

We are extremely happy with this school. Our son is happy and doing well as a junior in high school at Desiderata. He works at his own pace and isn't over loaded with assignments as he was in the public school system. The staff is compassionate, caring and competent. I wish we would have found Desiderata sooner.

Desiderata Parent, January 2018

We are breaking away from the traditional patterns of schooling into something new, something that allows each individual mind to work and learn its own individual way.”
